Most language apps keep you in a worksheet. VoiceGrove is built around talking. You hear a partner, you answer in character, and the lines you actually used come back later as flashcards. Maintenance, not a gate.
The three-step method is the whole product:
- VoiceGrove flashcards — keep yesterday’s lines warm.
- VoiceGrove roleplay — walk into a café, a taxi, a clinic, and stay in the scene.
- VoiceGrove Discord — take the same mouth-shape to real people.
Listen, Read, and Immerse are on the way. They will sit beside that loop, not replace it.
How this place is run
VoiceGrove is a small school, not a billboard. We would rather charge for a useful plan one day than rent your screen to advertisers. There is no ad network here, and there will not be one.
The tutor can be wrong. It is a practice partner, not a native teacher, not a lawyer, and not a doctor. Scenes about banks, clinics, or paperwork are simulations. When you want a human, that is what Discord is for.
Who it is for
Travelers, heritage speakers brushing dust off, and anyone who is tired of tapping tiles. If you can say a sentence out loud, you can use VoiceGrove. If you cannot yet, the first rooms are built for that too.
Questions, bugs, and “is this a real school?” live on the contact page. The fastest hello is still Discord.

Why is it called VoiceGrove?
Voice, because you speak. Grove, because it should feel like a place you walk into, not a streak counter. Say it however you like; most people say it as two words.
How am I supposed to study?
Do a handful of flashcards, enter a roleplay, then take those lines to Discord. The cards are for keeping phrases warm after you have used them. They are not a boss fight you have to beat before you are allowed to talk.
Is VoiceGrove free?
Yes. You can make an account and practice without paying. We do not show ads. If a paid plan exists on your account, it is optional and it is there so we can keep the lights on without selling your attention.
Do I need an account?
You can peek at scenes without one. An account saves progress, decks, and the rooms you have already walked through. Sign up with email; we send a short code, not a newsletter.
Is there a mobile app?
Not yet. Native iOS and Android apps are coming soon. Until then, the website works in a phone browser, and you can add it to your home screen. See the mobile page.
Do you show ads or sell my data?
No. We do not run ads, we do not drop ad trackers, and we do not sell personal information. The ads page is mostly us saying that again, louder.
The tutor said something weird. Is that a bug?
Sometimes. The partner is a language model sitting in a scene. It will invent a wrong tone, a too-polite cashier, or a clinic that is a little too cinematic. Treat it as rehearsal. For a human, use Discord.
Do I have to use a microphone?
No. You can type. If you do speak, your browser will ask for the mic. Audio is used to transcribe what you said so the partner can answer. Details are on the privacy page.
Which Mandarin is this?
The school is aimed at Mandarin as you would actually speak it. The interface leans Traditional characters. Pinyin is there when you want it. English under a line stays off unless you turn it on.
What happened to Listen, Read, and Immerse?
They are on the landing page because they are part of the method. They are not ready yet, so they say coming soon. Roleplay, flashcards, and Discord are the loop that works today.
I forgot my password.
Use Log in → Forgot password. We email a code, then you set a new one. If the mail never arrives, check spam, wait a minute, and resend. Still stuck? Contact.
Can I delete my account?
Yes. Sign in, open Me, and delete the account. That removes the account and the VoiceGrove progress stored with it. Export first if you want a copy of your deck.
Is this medical, legal, or banking advice?
No. Those rooms are conversation practice. Do not file a real visa, swallow a real pill, or wire a real payment because a scene partner sounded confident.

Discord is the front desk. Email is for account and legal things that do not belong in a public channel.
I can’t log in
Try the email you signed up with. If you forgot the password, use Forgot password on the log-in sheet and enter the code we send. If you never got a code, wait a minute, check spam, then resend. We will not reset an account from a Discord DM; the code has to hit the inbox.
Something is broken
Tell us what you tapped, what you expected, and what happened instead. A screenshot helps. Discord is fastest. If it is a security problem, email us instead of posting it in public.
I want a human conversation partner
That is what the VoiceGrove Discord is for. The tutor is rehearsal. People are the third step.

There is no VoiceGrove iPhone or Android app yet. We want one. It is not out.

What “coming soon” means
A native app is on the list, next to Listen, Read, and Immerse. We will not ship a hollow wrapper just to sit in an app store. When it exists, it will be the same school: flashcards, roleplay, then real people.
Using the website on a phone
Open VoiceGrove in Safari or Chrome. Sign in if you already have an account. Roleplay and cards work in the browser; your mic still needs permission if you speak instead of type.
On many phones you can tap Share or the browser menu and choose Add to Home Screen. That gives you an icon. It is still the website, not the future app.
Will the app be free?
The school is free to use, and the app will not be an ad funnel. No banner ads, no “watch a video for energy.” If we ever charge, it will be an honest plan, the same idea as on the web.

- If you do not agree, do not use VoiceGrove.
These terms are an agreement between you and VoiceGrove, the school at tryvoicegrove.com (the “service”). By using the site, apps, Discord community we run, or an account, you agree to them. We may change them; the date at the top will move, and keeping using VoiceGrove after that means you accept the new version.
The service
VoiceGrove is a Mandarin conversation school. It includes flashcards, roleplay scenes, optional speech recognition, and links to community spaces such as Discord. Features can change, break, or disappear. Maintenance happens. We are not liable for the site being down, slow, or wrong on your device.
An account is optional for some browsing and required for saving progress. We may add, remove, or limit features for guests and for signed-in people at any time.
Accounts
You need a working email and a password you do not reuse from somewhere precious. You are responsible for that login. Tell us if you think someone else is in your account.
You must be at least 13 to create an account. If you are under the age of digital consent where you live, a parent or guardian has to agree for you.
Display names should not impersonate someone else, hawk a scam, or exist only to harass. We can close or rename accounts that break that.
Practice, not advice
Roleplay is fiction for the mouth. Scenes that look like clinics, banks, airports, or offices are not medical, legal, financial, or immigration advice. The tutor is software. It will be confidently wrong. You still have to use your own judgment in the real world.
Acceptable use
Use VoiceGrove in a lawful way. Do not try to break in, scrape the service into sludge, overload it, or feed it malware. Do not use it to generate abuse, to cheat other learners in bad faith, or to harvest other people’s data.
On Discord and anywhere else we host a conversation, be a person you would sit next to on a train. No hate, no harassment, no spam. We can remove content and accounts that make the grove worse.
Your content
You keep whatever rights you have in the messages, custom scenes, and other material you submit. You give VoiceGrove a license to host, process, and display that material so the service can run — including sending clips to speech recognition and lines to the tutor.
Our content
The VoiceGrove name, mascot, scenes, and site design are ours. Do not copy the product and pretend it is yours. You may show VoiceGrove in a video or a class. Credit is appreciated, not required.
Paid plans
If you buy a plan, we will say what it includes before you pay. Fees are for access to those features, not for ads-to-go-away, because ads are not here in the first place. Unless the law says otherwise, we do not refund digital access that you already used.
Disclaimer and limits
VoiceGrove is provided “as is.” We do not promise that the tutor is accurate, that you will become fluent, or that the service will match a particular device. To the fullest extent the law allows, VoiceGrove is not liable for lost data, lost time, or anything that happens because you trusted a practice scene in real life.
Ending things
You can stop using VoiceGrove and delete your account from Me. We can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, harms other people, or puts the service at risk. Some clauses (including the disclaimer) survive that.

This page explains what VoiceGrove collects and why. It covers tryvoicegrove.com and the same service when you open it on a phone. Discord is a separate company; their privacy policy applies once you leave for discord.com.

VoiceGrove runs this service. Privacy mail goes to hello@tryvoicegrove.com.
What we collect
When you visit
The host sees ordinary server logs: IP address, browser, pages requested, and roughly when. We use that to keep the site up, to debug, and to notice abuse. We do not use it to target ads, because we do not do ads.
When you create an account
Email, password (stored hashed), display name, and whether you confirmed the email. We email short codes for sign-up and password reset. That is transactional mail, not a newsletter you never asked for.
When you study
Progress, flashcards, custom scenes, settings, and a short history of rooms you entered. That is the school notebook. It is how we show your path the next time you open VoiceGrove.
When you speak
If you use the microphone, your browser sends audio to VoiceGrove so we can transcribe it and continue the scene. We process that clip to run the lesson. Do not dictate secrets you would not put in the chat box.
Cookies
We use a session token so you stay logged in. That is so you do not have to type your password on every flashcard. Not a third-party advertising cookie.
Why we process it
To provide the service you asked for (the contract of using VoiceGrove), to keep it secure, and to fix bugs. Optional profile bits are there because you typed them.
What we do not do
We do not sell your personal information. We do not run third-party ad networks. We do not build a dossier to retarget you across the rest of the internet. If a vendor helps us send email or host the site, they get only what they need to do that job.
How long we keep it
Account and progress stay until you delete the account, or until we close an account under the terms. Server logs are kept only as long as they are useful for security and operations. Email codes expire in minutes.
Your choices
You can access and update profile information in Me. You can export your studio. You can delete your account there too. You can ask us by email if a button is not enough. If you are in a place with extra rights (access, correction, erasure, portability, objection), write to us and we will handle it.
Children
VoiceGrove is not aimed at children under 13. If we learn we have an account for someone younger than that, we will delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will update the date above. Keep using VoiceGrove after that and you are looking at the new version. Questions: contact.
No billboards
We don’t do ads
VoiceGrove does not show advertisements. We do not sell your screen, your microphone, or your study habits to an ad network.
The whole page, really
- No banners, no sponsored lessons, no “a word from our partner.”
- No tracking pixels for advertisers.
- Please do not email us about “monetizing inventory.”
A lot of “free” products are not free. They rent your attention and follow you around the web. That does not belong in a language school. You came here to speak Mandarin, not to look at a shoe ad while a cashier waits.
If VoiceGrove needs money, we will ask you for it in the open — a plan you can understand — not by sprinkling junk between flashcards. Blocking ads is not theft. You get to decide what runs on your computer.
Trackers
We do not drop third-party ad trackers on these pages. The rest of the internet is less polite. If you want a shield for everywhere else, a good general-purpose blocker such as uBlock Origin is a reasonable start. Use tools you trust; we are not their vendor.
Partners, affiliates, “synergy”
We are not looking for ad networks, sponsored decks, or paid placement in the grove. If that is your pitch, the answer is no. If you actually want to learn Mandarin, the door is the homepage.
